Tuesday 16 April  -  Meerkat

First trip of 2019 aboard Meerkat aimed at wrecking. Left Weymouth at 8.00 am with calm seas, light winds and hazy sunshine heading south to the mid-channel wrecks. Arrived at the first wreck at 10.00 am on a slackening tide and after five drifts only four small Pollack had been landed, so it was decided to move further west to other wrecks, but again they were disappointing with with only two Pollack being caught in two hours. We then moved several miles back inshore to another wreck and this proved more successful with larger Pollack being caught, but the numbers were poor with only 8 being caught. At 2.30 pm the skipper announced that we would be packing up at 3.00 pm and heading back as he had an evening trip booked at 5.30 pm. This was not well received by the other anglers, but nothing was said. We arrived back at 5.00 pm with 14 Pollack in total, my tally was 2 Pollack to 7 lbs.

Saturday 18 May -  Offshore Rebel

First Cub trip  with nine anglers on board, Clive dropped out at 7.00 am. We left port at and headed due south to mid channel wrecks. The sea was flat calm with a light easterly breeze and warm sunshine. We reached the first wreck at 10.00 am with another two boats already set up, but we decided to give it a try, but after four drifts and only one Pollack to show the skipper decided to move to another wreck five miles west. The tide was easing when we started our first drift and we were soon into the fish, the first being to me, an 8 lbs Pollack and several other anglers had similar catches, but a few were only catching Pouting. The fish were still coming aboard until the tide dropped away, but we stayed until the tide turned but the fish had gone. This was a good wreck for some of the anglers and I had four more Pollack to 14 lbs and a 6 lb Cod. We moved back inshore for the last hour and had several drifts over the banks for Bass, but only one was landed. This was an enjoyable trip. This was an enjoyable trip compared to my previous with more decent sized fish, 21 Pollack in total. My tally was 5 Pollack to 14 lbs and 1 Cod at 6 lbs..
